SQDCP is a board with five indicators for a short daily meeting on the shop floor: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People. Each letter has its colour for the day — green if all is well, red if not — and one sentence about what happened.
The five letters
- S — Safety. Injuries and dangerous situations. Always first, because it is the most important. Green = a day without injury.
- Q — Quality. Scrap, complaints, rework. Example: scrap under 2% of parts made.
- D — Delivery. Whether orders are finished on time. Example: 9 of 10 orders finished by the deadline.
- C — Cost. Lost time and material; often seen through OEE or lost hours.
- P — People. Present versus planned per shift and department, absences.
What the meeting looks like
Every morning, 10–15 minutes, standing by the board. The shift leader goes through the five letters:
- What was red yesterday?
- What is the cause (one or two sentences, not a discussion)?
- Who does what, and by when?
If something needs a longer conversation, it is scheduled separately. The meeting is not a place for solving problems but for visibility and accountability.
Example
Tuesday, hall 2: S green. Q red — 4.1% scrap on PR-03, tool check today by noon (setter). D green. C amber — 38 min of waiting for material on CNC-02, the warehouse is checking why the pallet was late. P red — two absent, one operator moved from hall 1.
Common mistakes
- The board is filled in for the meeting, not from the shop floor. Numbers are copied from notebooks and are a day old.
- Too many indicators. Five letters, one number each. The details are in the reports.
- Red without action. If the same letter is red all week with no name and no deadline, the board stops meaning anything.
In MachineTakt
MachineTakt Board is a TV board on the shop floor that needs no login. Quality and cost are calculated from machine data, delivery from orders (finished on time), and safety and people are entered by the shift leader and the production manager. This way the board is always fresh, and the meeting starts with numbers, not with searching.
